TrotMania Euphorius

The Gathering of Embers is an event that almost nopony had ever heard of. Thankfully, learning about ended up being a worthwhile experience.

Trials of the Embers

"Pay attention to everything, and everypony. You know what's real and what's not. Don't let her visions overwhelm you. If she has a malicious intent, we can take her down together."

Category: Update

“I always make sure to thank everypony who helps clean up after the bonfire. Unlike our hometown, the #1 rule here is that what happens cannot stay here.”

Welcome to the final update to Euphorius. While we contemplate how we’re going to top ourselves for Shrive, feel free to conclude your dusk-till-dawn partying in the desert with eight new songs, and a ton of other patches (including newly-added videos for six other songs).

“Dreams (DJ Vortivask’s Remaster)” and “Only Pony” make their official debut in Payload 6, alongside the “Original Style” versions of the 6 songs featured in the Trials of the Embers event. Basically, this means that they are “normal” and gimmick-free versions of the songs, with full sets of charts. That doesn’t make them any easier, though!

While we’re here

Speaking of ways we’re going to top ourselves for Shrive, we would like to share a few of them with you.

“Obscurus doing something suspicious again. Weird messages I’ve seen painted everywhere today. Getting sand in my mouth and mane. Blast Furnace; is it me, or is everything at the Gathering out to get me?”

“Ha! Actually, I get that a lot from first-timers; nothing anypony has ever posted online about the Gathering has ever summed up what it’s really like to be here for real, so it’s quite a culture shock. But if they do think something’s up, I just tell them that some sort of omnipresence is judging their worthiness. It’s the ‘trials of the Embers’, as I like to call it.”

“I’m guessing it’s like one of those RPG quests?”

“You got the idea.”

“So what’s our next objective?”

“Being on the lookout for any suspicious activity, but I think you should talk with Diablo about that; she’s been quite knowledgeable.”

“Agreed.”

“Also, Sun Beamer, while we’re here, you don’t have to constantly bring up that dust storm incident. I caught your drift the first 126 times.”

Light the Fuse

Tonight brings the symbolic end of the Gathering of Embers and perhaps its most famous moment, when the giant, wooden alicorn that had been silently overseeing the proceedings in Duskgem Basin, will be burned to the ground with much fanfare (and all but the most loyal participants will promptly begin clogging up the roadways trying to get out a few hours later, if they don’t stay around for the afterparty that is).

While this event was meant to be an opportunity to let loose, the fact that your one-time enemy Obscurus Noctis is here, brought an entire DJ posse with her, and is planning to do something during the burn with the same, vision-altering magic she tried using on you at the EDM festival in Las Pegasus earlier, has cast a shadow on your visit to Duskgem Basin. At the same time, her friends seemed to be quite friendly; Eight Track was pretty chill, while Train Spot and Wave Rider rival you and Blast Furnace in the “Most Adorable yet Tough Looking Couple at the Gathering of Embers” category.

But, there’s always a chance that they were just trying to gain your trust so you won’t be suspicious of Obscurus, or be tempted to meddle with her plans. You’ve learned tidbits about her abilities from a mysterious DJ known as the Diamond Diablo, but now it’s time to put the pieces together. Everything you’ve seen here, no matter how ridiculous, can successfully be justified as being art. For all we know, it could just be good, clean fun in the end. But you’ve only ever seen Obscurus play dirty, so you’re not wrong in being suspicious of her future actions.

Apparently, diffraction glasses (which conveniently fit right inside your ski goggles) make it easier to see the visible signature associated with this specific magic, but you’ve been warned that they can cause you to see disorienting “visions” during the burn. You see how turning every point of light into a rainbow-colored star could be potentially nauseating at any time, but everypony keeps talking up their effects like something a lot more significant is happening.

Yeah, something’s gonna happen alright, and they’re not going to need rainbow-tinted glasses (or questionable agriculture) to see it if Obscurus gets her way. Like Blast Furnace told you earlier, these may just be your trials.

Finally.

TrotMania III established a convention for having one of the final updates be accompanied by an event of sorts. While the update itself was the event in the case of Dawnfall, Trials of the Embers is an event in its own right, and is in my opinion, one of the biggest side-projects that has ever occurred within TrotMania so far. It was worth the wait, for sure.

For those who aren’t aware, Trials is a set of missions in the style of those “sightreading tournament” things that people like TaroNuke have been organizing. That means gimmicks and lots of them. The Mod Lab stuff was just preparing you (and us, in a way) for this moment. These are brand new songs and brand new stepcharts that few people have seen before. Can you see through the visions and dance your way to victory?

Trials of the Embers is set within the climax of the TrotMania IV story Embers Fall; the events will be seen from different perspectives in its final chapters, so stay tuned!

A few notes before we get started

As we have repeatedly warned, Trials needs a different version of StepMania than normal, because these songs utilize features not found in the current version. StepMania 5.1 Beta 2 was released earlier this week, and is the recommended version to play it on. A special Trials theme and a 3D version of the Horsegroove noteskin are included in the release bundle; you’ll only get the nice cutscenes/other art if you use the Trials theme.

It is strongly advised that you read the README file in the bundle, especially if you’re not experienced with handling these types of simfiles,

Speed mods do not matter. Keep it on an X-mod (i.e. 1.0x/1.5x), because the sequences specify their own speed mods, and we’ve seen M-mods cause breakage. Oh, and one more thing, you don’t need to worry about failure either: all of the stages are set up so that you can’t fail at all!

It’s time.

Before we go any further, I would like to personally thank everyone who was involved in this little project; coders, troubleshooters, artists, etc. It took longer than I thought it was going to, but at the same time, this gave me more opportunities to add some final bits of polish and other surprises. While this is the grand finale of TrotMania Euphorius from a storyline standpoint, there is still one more payload update on the horizon, and we’ve also been picking up the pace on TrotMania V too!

But anyway, Trials is what you’re here for, and the button below is how you will get it!

If you need any help or want to show off your scores, we got a Discord channel for that. In any case, good luck!

With our partners at PonyvilleFM celebrating their 7th anniversary, we thought it would be cool to give you guys the penultimate patch for our fourth title, loaded to the brim with tons of content!

New Songs

  • Music to My Ears and Unleash the Magic hail from the Equestria Girls series
  • We continue work with our partners from Zenius-I-Vanisher in getting crossovers from the indie electro scene. Up first is BVG, a eurobeat artist whose rearrangement of a piece by former pony artist eXtaticus appears in the game with All We Can Do. Then there’s Quick Man, whose Talking to the Mirror provides some tense breakbeats to get your groove on to!
  • Pound 131, bank pain, R3CTIFIER with Phoxi, and Silver Note all make their debuts in the series with Chaos Within, Empire Past, overwrite_deity, and Run respectively.
  • PonyMania porting continues as DashStep by Baasik makes its debut in the TrotMania series. It is one of the harder standard bosses in the series, with a wicked level 17 Challenge chart to contend with!
  • The final Pyrosentric bosses, Mutate and NIGHTWING STIMUL8R, along with the OMES YANDANCER, are now available for normal play!

However, that’s not even close to the end, as there is a second Pyrosentric that begins now. Where the first had bosses in the moderate 15-16 range, this set pulls no punches, with several charts going hard into the 17 range. 4 existing tracks (Do You Love Me (Crystal Mix), Entropy (Sim Gretina Remix), In Our Town (Eurotopia Mix), and Return) have received new charts for this mode, and 4 other songs remain shrouded in mystery, perhaps more if you do well…

Changelog

  • Almost all applicable songs in Euphorius now have lyric files which will display timed in-game, courtesy of newly appointed TM dev “\\”.
  • The following new charts have been added: In Our Town (Challenge 15), J2R (Expert 14), Come Alive (Challenge 14), To the Sky (Challenge 11 (SA)), Entropy (Sim Gretina Remix) (Challenge 16 (SA)), Return (Challenge 17), In Our Town (Eurotopia Mix) (Challenge 16), Do You Love Me (Crystal Mix) (Challenge 14).
  • Basashi has been altered significantly in terms of its cut and steps.
  • Vinylicious is now credited to Scraton and its graphic set has been changed to reflect this.
  • Spirit of Fire’s background script from the Mod Lab pack is now part of its normal version.
  • Cloudsdale EVOLVED (all versions) has been cleaned up on Expert.
  • Good Girl (Sub.Sound Remix) is now Good Girl (JoinedTheHerd Remix) and its graphics have been redone (in higher resolution!) to reflect this.
  • Other minor improvements have been made across the board.

Regarding the Mod Lab

The Mod Lab pack is now part of the main patches! Note that they have received minor enhancements since their individual appearance with the last patch, along with new previews to help differentiate them from their normal counterparts.

Not to be outdone

The theme has also received its 1.5 update, which includes some fit and finish tweaks, the changes necessary to use the new Pyrosentric set correctly, as well as some, ahem, plot-related … things. The previous NoteSkin download has also been merged into the Theme bundle, and also has some new additions in the form of Equality2 (finally updated to match the appearance of the other noteskins as of TM4), and Horsemaniax.

Note to those who have older versions of the TM4 theme; due to the changes and optimizations in this release, it is highly recommended that you not overwrite an older version of the theme with this one, and that you just delete the older version and replace it with 1.5.

Edit: If you downloaded the Mod Lab Tier II files before September 7, 2017, please redownload. There was code missing from a song.

This past week, the real event that inspired TrotMania Euphorius has been going on in the real Nevada,. Plus, tonight is the night (Pacific Time) of its culmination and namesake (i.e. the part where they actually set their Literal Wicker Man on fire. Don’t worry, no actual men were harmed, or burned for that matter, it’s just made of wood). Given that we have a lot of news and new content today too, it needs a good, fitting, blanket title. So, how about…

That’ll work.

Payload 4

In the new songs department;

  • I’ll Fly and The Pony I Want to Be
  • µThunder remixes Say Goodbye to The Holiday into the perfect soundtrack for destroying a holiday, but still having a good time whilst doing so.
  • Silva Hound and Eurobeat Brony want you to Come Alive
  • lia;quo has inflicted us with some Crystal Corruption
  • Awkward Marina’s Entropy gets a remix by Sim Gretina
  • Lenich & Kirya give a classic love song some Russian flair, Eh Chirli! Chirli!
  • Mandopony takes on Music to My Ears
  • fractilx’s J2R

In the extra stage department;

  • Kapow! and Welcome to My Lullaby have graduated out of Pyrosentric!
  • New Fluttershy (Monster Mix) has graduated to standard extra stage; you know what that means? There is a new OMES song, one that has already been dubbed “a piece of ‘let’s be harder then Over the ‘Period’‘” (if you are familiar with the subject matter, you will know exactly what to expect.)

In the new Iron Pony charts department;

  • Spitfire (CDPP Remix) (lv. 13)
  • *The Super Duper Party Pony (lv. 15)
  • Yak Funk (lv. 12)
  • Hooves Up High (lv. 14, TM III)

In the Quality of Life department;

  • There have been some difficulty rating adjustments from songs on all versions, and chart adjustments on I, Chrystalize, and Euphorius,
  • Other miscellaneous adjustments across I, Chrystalize, and Euphorius

Embers Fall

The TrotMania Euphorius lore story Embers Fall is slowly approaching its climax! There have been a slew of new chapters, so feel free to catch up on Fimfiction. Among the new developments, you say? A brand new character, meet this fellow DJ! Few know her real name, but everypony else knows her as the Diamond Diablo. What does she have in store? Stay tuned…

Mod Lab

The TrotMania Mod Lab is back! Just as the Gathering is full of weird experimental art, this takes existing TrotMania songs and turns them into experimental art that others tend to refer to as a “mod file”, “scripted modifiers”, “those things Taro makes”, etc.. TrotMania Euphorius Mod Lab Tier 2 features three new songs, representing three different TrotMania versions;

  • Boooring!
  • Spirit of Fire
  • Spin That Record Vinyl Scratch (Assertive Fluttershy Mix)

QoL tweaks have also been made to the original four.

Theme update

Theme version 1.1.1 is now on the Downloads page. It features some minor bugfixes and enhancements.

Trials of the Embers

Some colts want to watch the world burn.

So, you’re probably wondering what this is. Tonight, I partially spill the beans: it’s something very wicked, which will heavily tie into the finale of the TrotMania Euphorius storyline.

You might have noticed that, so far, all of the Mod Lab stuff has used songs that are already in TrotMania. This setlist, however, is going to be very different; if you have heard of the “sightreading tournaments” that are being held from time to time, it’s going to be a little something like that. Basically, these are all-new songs and charts, that you have never seen yet. Add the gimmicks and effects we’re concocting, and it’s going to be a musical thrill ride unlike anything you’ve ever seen in TrotMania (but less like those made by TaroNuke within the last two years. Those are just insane. They may be more WinDEU-esque, to be honest, if you’ve ever heard of him. Does anypony here know how to use splines in StepMania 5?).

Trials will likely be released by the end of the year. This is highly technical stuff we are dealing with here, and we want to make sure it all works perfectly before we stroke the match and light this place on fire.

New Songs

After a couple of months, we’re proud to announce the latest update to TrotMania is now available! Loaded with a baker’s dozen of songs along with a bunch of other goodies, this one’s quite meaty. Let’s look into our main entree…

New Tracks

New Showtunes

Equestria Girls

  • Starting off our show tunes set for this update is Equestria Girls, from promotional Hub material. Remember those? The station went all out with original material like songs and exclusive animation to advertise their repertoire. In this case, they pulled from Katy Perry’s massive hit (that was pretty recent when this cover came out) and incidentally tipped their hat to the bronies explicitly for the first time with a lyrical shoutout. This set of charts comes to us from the Zenius-I-vanisher community, written by Suko and adapted for this game with permission: certain elements like mines and 3+ note jumps have been written out, and there is both a brand new Beginner and Challenge chart, courtesy of resident stepper InklingBear!

The Super Duper Party Pony

  • Hailing from the Season 4 musical episode Pinkie Pride is The Super Duper Party Pony. This episode has been represented in the previous game with the Goof Off, and like that track, once again the vocal talent of Weird Al Yankovic graces the game, as the manic rhythms and pace goad you on to getting that new high score! These charts were written by InklingBear.

Welcome To The Show (Music In Me, The Battle, The Music Survives)

  • Getting us one step (or rather, three steps) closer to finishing Rainbow Rocks’ musical repertoire is Welcome to the Show, presented in-game through 3 parts. This crazy piece runs the gamut of genres, starting off with a post-grunge-esque waltz, moving to more standard 00’s-style pop-rock, then to symphonic metal, finally bringing the house down with some 10’s-style anthem pop! It’s a feast to experience as a whole, and there is something there to help you that shall be elaborated later on. All the charts of these 3 songs were written by RIME.

New Brony Songs

do you love me? & do you love me? (Crystal Mix) / Dynamite Grizzly

  • New from Dynamite Grizzly are two variants on a track: the original do you love me?, and do you love me (Crystal Mix). These techno tracks have that certain 90s underground feel to them that’s rare to hear in the mainstream, even in Europe where more conventional 90s dance styles have been resurging. These charts were all prepared by InklingBear.

FluttERR (feat. Rina-chan) / Aoshi

  • One of the biggest brony hits of 2016, and one of the biggest brony-related videos ever produced by the fandom, finally gets representation in the game as FluttERR by Aoshi makes it to the game. After getting repped earlier with Kick Back (a PonyMania port), now the rapper finally has a newly crafted simfile in the series. Originally released in 2013 and featuring the vocals of Rina-chan, this trap-flavored track provides a fair challenge. RIME wrote the Beginner, and InklingBear wrote the rest.

SPIKEY WIKEY WOO (HUM & DRUM MIX) / アイスベア

  • A new contribution from InklingBear herself comes to the game as SPIKEY WIKEY WOO (HUM & DRUM MIX) arrives to the game. From InklingBear’s album under this alias called “A bear joins the herd…” and a standout appearance on a tournament lineout called “Ponies Play DDR”, it’s definitely gonna leave you with more than just a mystery to solve with Spikey-Woo on your side. With charts written by the composer herself, they do pack quite a punch. Now go load up on some Scooby snacks and start solving those mysteries!

A Summer In The Stars (Aftermath Remix) / Forest Rain

  • Continuing our trend started with this game’s launch, another song from the defunct PonyMania steppack has been adapted to TrotMania’s standards. This time it’s A Summer in the Stars (Aftermath Remix) by Forest Rain. This EDM remix is quite the unique take on the rollicking rock style of the original. These charts were originally written by Calena and were adapted by RIME.

Pyrosentric Songs

pinki! fun!! / Spott & Preamble / YourEnigma

  • 2 tracks from the Pyrosentric Extra Stage system are now available for regular play! pinki! fun!! is a manic little hyper track that will trip you up with jump streams all written by InklingBear. Preamble is all about the streams, draining your stamina as bursts come in in the second half, written by InklingBear (Beginner/Basic) and C. Wiggers (Difficult-Challenge).

Extra Stage Song

Robot Pony / Progressive Element

  • The new normal Encore Extra Stage from last version has been both moved down to Extra Stage and made available for normal play. Robot Pony by Progressive Element throws every trick in the book to sap you of your lives from speed tricks, spins, and loads and loads of jumps! The charts were written by InklingBear and Woona❤ (Challenge) Of course this means there’s a new Encore in town…I wonder what it is…

New Course

  • To help you enjoy Welcome to the Show at its fullest, try out the new Welcome to the Show medley! It…kinda speaks for itself.

Alterations

  • The following songs have had charts and/or sync changed: FOREVER, Miles, To the Sky [VIP Rework], Until the Sun
  • Friends are Always There for You (Remix) now has a new banner.
  • Concrete Temples (Club Mix) and Infrared now correctly display their background images when played.
  • The Extra Stages have been shifted for TrotMania Euphorius. Robot Pony is now ES and there is a new song as the Encore Extra Stage…

Check out the download for the update in the Downloads page on this site! Heads up: unlike last game, if you have not yet obtained Payload #2, you will need to download it before Payload #3: these patches are heavy!
